Because Zhongli was perfect. And the space Childe used to inhabit, where Guizhong once sat, was once filled with perfection, as well. And Childe knew there would come the day when Zhongli would realise that Childe wasn’t good enough for his perfection.

Summary
When there was nothing to hold onto, not even one's family, was when a merperson turned, transformed, morphed, grotesquely, into a siren.
That was when they began craving the flesh and blood of prey far more intelligent than fish. Humans. Gods, but they were never that successful.
No mer wanted to admit that they were even tangentially related to the monsters.
It was irreconcilable with their sensibilities.
Yet, of course, sirens had no such sensibilities, having clawed their way out of hell, in which morality and qualms died a sad, painful, death.
Or: Siren!Ajax really really really wants to eat Zhongli. In the literal way. What he doesn't know is that Zhongli is completely fine with it.

Summary
Ajax and Zhongli are blissfully married, in the modern landscape of Liyue State, in the United States of Teyvat. Ajax is an accountant, and Zhongli is a the consultant for a funeral parlour.
'Childe' is an illegal vigilante collecting debt for the Northland Bank, and 'Morax' is an illegal vigilante dead-set on distracting Childe with regular duels and sparring so he doesn't kill any more citizens of Liyue.
'Tartaglia' is the 11th Most Wanted supervillain in Teyvat, serving the vicious Tsaritsa, and he's out to steal the Gnosis of Rex Lapis, the Archon of Liyue.
Both juggle three identities precariously.
Neither of them knows this about the other.
Let the chaos begin.
