Summary
New York had a way of taking things from you. It had taken her ambition, her hope, the sharp edges of her youth, and returned a life of small routines and quieter disappointments. She found her escapes where she could: the sharp burn of a cigarette between her fingers, the heavy, familiar pour of wine into a chipped glass after a particularly crushing day at work. She had stopped expecting anything to break the stillness, had made peace with the ordinary misery.
Until she began crossing paths with the man from 3A. A quiet neighbor with a peculiar scar on his cheek, a courtly politeness, and a smile that made you believe in goodness. He carried groceries for the elderly woman downstairs, he held doors. He seemed like the kind of man who appeared when someone needed help. He seemed kind. But beneath his kindness, a sinister nature hid. The quietest men, after all, often had the most to hide.

"People think that I am the wicked, and George the sweet one," said Fred. "But sometimes we turn it about. What's important to remember if you're caught in the middle is that we keep it in balance."

Summary
Fred hummed inquisitively, still toying with her senses like a cat batting at a feather. “There is one part of this that I haven’t been able to suss out, though.”
“And what’s that, brother mine?”
“What exactly her plan was if we were both here when she showed up.”
Hermione froze and met George’s eyes as he comprehended what his twin had just indirectly told him; that she hadn’t gone there specifically for Fred. Her cheeks heated and it felt like her whole body flushed, but she didn’t deny it. She’d told herself before she left her flat that she wouldn’t lie to them, and saying that she didn’t want them both would be just that: a lie.
“Is that true, Hermione?” George asked as he rounded the chair and sauntered to stand in front of her. He reached out and placed a knuckle beneath her chin, forcing her to look up and meet his gaze again. “Did you come here planning to fuck us both?”

Summary
What use is knowledge of the future when she can't bring herself to care? She owed this world nothing - this story would continue without her.
Death took a chance, gambled on the wrong soul, and now she has to pay for it. No one ever said the Wizarding World would be all fun and games, especially not with a Dark Lord's imminent revival, a Headmasters penchant for manipulation, and a Boy-Who-Will-Die's stubborn tenacity. Not that it will matter soon, anyway.
