the voice made him stop in his tracks from where he was walking a few paces behind izuku on their weekly walks at the park.

only izuku called him ‘papa’ and his six year old was having the time of his life splashing in puddles up ahead of him. shouta knew this. still, he turned around to once again, only to be met by an empty pathway.

had he misheard? but someone needed to actually be there for him to hear anything in the first place- and he knew he heard something. he was sure of it this time.

yet, once again, he was met with emptiness, no one there.

shouta physically batted away the thought and sighed. this was… an unexpected development. he did not want to have to call the kid out to explain inappropriate crushes. however, the evergreen scent in the air was nothing but platonic, more akin to a puppy in the presence of its dam rather than anything close to romantic.

he sighed again. he couldn’t tell what was running through the kid’s head when it came to his problem puppy.

"midoriya?" shouta questioned, growing even more confused and worried when the boy stiffened at the sound of his own name. horrified green eyes snapped up to meet his gaze, filled with emotion shouta didn’t understand.
"w-what?" the boy breathed out, voice almost inaudible had shouta not been listening. "dad?"

hizashi’s gaze softened at the sight of shouta cooking dinner with a familiar cargo attached to his back. upon closer inspection, he sees izuku clinging onto his dad’s back like a baby koala, a few loops of shouta’s capture weapon acting as a sort of sling to support the boy while the man worked.

hizashi peered around shouta’s shoulder like a curious uncle. the sight that meets him had his heart melting a little. izuku’s chubby cheek was smooshed against his dad’s shoulder, dried tear tracks still visible as the boy dozed lightly, hands loosely fisting in shouta’s jumpsuit.

“if he wakes up and starts crying again, i’m stabbing you in the spleen.”
