The war ruined him more—it pushed him past what was salvageable of his pathetic life and molded him into some blood-hungry, self-destructive animal. Something that didn’t know when to stop being cruel, when to stop being mean, when to put down the bottle. Like some animal that knew that it was mauling the hand that fed it, but didn’t know how to stop, even if it cried and whined, begging for forgiveness.
