He looked up to meet Hermie's gaze and was caught off guard as he realized how close they’d become. Not backing up or looking away, Hermie stared at him in awe, simply taking his time to relish in the act.
Either of them could back away, laugh it off as some fleeting feelings. The heat of the moment. The insanity of their situations.
But, he thought, no one had ever looked at him like this. Like he was something to take in rather than throw out.
