It had been a long day, after a long week, following what felt like an even longer month and Lena was tired. Tired wasn’t even close to an adequate descriptor, but her brain had angrily tossed the dictionary out the window the moment the car door closed, so she had to settle for tired.
She sunk a little deeper into the plush leather of the car seat and unbuttoned the remaining buttons on her black suit jacket and closed her eyes, let the thrum of the car and the city wash over her.All she really needed was one uninterrupted evening with Kara, just the two of them.

Kara blinks up from the food to Lena’s chest—oops—before meeting Lena’s eyes. “Save you?” she says. “Haha. What. Like, uh, like Supergirl? Or whatever?”
“No, silly,” Lena says, smiling so fondly at her that it makes Kara a little lightheaded. “As my bodyguard, of course.”
“Oh right! That’s me!” Kara grins, puffing out her chest and clicking her heels and keeping her eyeline firmly above Lena’s shoulders. “At your service, ma’am. Ready to guard your—um.” She halts. “Your… body,” she finishes, flinching.
