LOOONGFIC. kyoko goes back to kyoko. the fuwas adopt her and make her their heir. she finds an equilibrium working at the ryokan.
meanwhile, nothing in tokyo goes the way it would've with kyoko. ren fails to surpass his father in dark moon, and falls into a slump. since the last time he was happy was in kyoto, lory sends him there to find his happiness. kuon finds kyoko.
kuon reconnects with tina, and finds apologies and forgiveness from her. he begins to heal.
an intense love affair ensues. kuon teaches kyoko acting, picks away at her heart's defenses, flirts, and spends time with her. she eventually lets him in, and they begin dating. they fuck. a lot.
the fuwas realize kyoko has not been truly happy, and start treating her properly as a daughter. yayoi encourages the romance. and kyoko and kuon's love sparks the fuwas to find their own love as well. yayoi and lory conspire regarding the young lovers.
kuon has to become ren again for a movie shooting (ring doh 2 -- the first a failure without kyoko there to spur ruriko into taking the role seriously). but now kuon is awake and alive again, and ren has changed as a result. he's more impulsive. he's more frank. he's more casual. and when ruriko drops out and the only options are terrible, kyoko steps in with an audition and claims the part for herself.
during filming, kyoko confronts the abuse she took from saena & sho. sho is an explicit physical abuser here. one of her competition for the role is mimori, and she has fallen far since sho has spiraled into drug use and disgrace. sho is using her the way he did kyoko, and she's considering sex work to support him. she's been cut off from her support. kyoko recognizes this, and extends a helping hand to her, to help her leave sho.
kuon yells at someone on-set for hitting kyoko while in-character. it's quite the scene. later that day, lory and kuu sneak onto set and while kyoko is feeling particularly isolated, kuu initiates contact and they become friendly. kuon recognizes him, berates him for maybe blowing his cover. lory and kuu go to the ryokan for a proper reunion later. etc etc. lory drama -- he fucks up several times in this story (sends ruto spying on k&k during a date, offers kyoko a love me position that she rejects, and sends a better offer as a contract too late).
kuon plans a future with kyoko. she convinces herself it's a future doomed to heartbreak anyway. once filming stops, she does her best to avoid him. this lasts for weeks before kuon has to leave for a different job, and finally at the end kyoko rejects him so thoroughly that he DOES leave, heartbroken.
kuon becomes the angry version of himself, and as cain heel he indulges in fighting, drugs, and once, a threesome with some random women. it's awful and he ends up leaving, only to masturbate to the idea of kyoko and then pass out in his trashed room. ten finds him, is compassionate for him but still sets him straight as an adult. she tells him to let go of kyoko. he regains his professionalism.
kyoko has spent this time grieving the relationship, trying to convince herself it's still for the best. she reinvests herself in school. it's not perfect but she becomes friendly with others. her classmates elect her to direct romeo & juliet, and she ends up subbing in as juliet, and she realizes she truly loves the feeling of performing.
this leads to her realizing how empty she feels without kuon. she calls him. a woman rudely answers the phone. kyoko assumes kuon has found a new girlfriend.
kyoko almost works herself to death. kuon hears and comes running to her side. she begins healing, and THEY begin healing. they talk, and decide to tell each other EVERYTHING. slowly they both work thru their issues, esp kyoko's rejection of love.
ren has to go back to work, kyoko back to school. they go long-distance. their bond only builds. she visits him. magical bday. the heels at disneyland.
ren announces having a gf but doesn't say who. kyoko has to choose between college and acting. she chooses acting at the last minute. then there's a jumpcut to the future. kyoko's career has gotten huge. she goes international and wins awards. kyoko and kuon show their true selves on the red carpet.

When he sees a certain orange-haired girl, though, he has doubts about carrying out these orders. Dark themes, nothing explicit. Vaguely inspired by Bladerunner (but not a Bladerunner fic). One-shot.
