Just as Ren was about to consider this whole thing a mistake, he felt the fingers laced between his own squeeze reassuringly. When Ren looked up, he saw a broad smile on Jing Yuan’s face. “We’re going to be parents?” He asked in awe, beaming at Ren with genuine wonder. Dropping the test, he quickly snatched Ren’s other hand and pulled it close. “I’m going to be a dad?”

He supposed it was his fault he didn’t understand the very Aeon his homeworld worshipped well enough. The Reignbow Arbiter was never particularly known for being merciful, or granting wishes.
Or perhaps, if Yanqing perceived things from a different angle, Lan did grant his wish in a sense. They were only about a decade too late, when Yanqing had began to become convinced his mother wasn't ever coming back or they had already left this world.
And his mother in actuality, for one, was nothing at all what his child self would expect.

Jing Yuan is curled up on his side in the middle, his hands tucked sweetly by his head. Yingxing sees immediately what had drawn Dan Feng’s attention - instead of the normal white cotton robes Jing Yuan normally wears to bed, he’s wearing a sheer teal robe that’s obviously a little too big for him.
He hears Dan Feng lick his lips. “Yingxing, I want to taste him.”

Xianzhou law speaks of marriage as "until death do us part", but Vidyadhara do not die and have their own special subset of laws pertaining marriage and inheritance rights. Reincarnation does not absolve a spouse of responsibility – in fact, reincarnation is seen as a separation but not a divorce unless one or both parties officially dissolve the marriage.
This means that Jing Yuan has been paying alimony to Dan Heng ever since he was reborn. Dan Heng, having grown up in a prison, knows nothing about this and the money appearing in his bank account each month after he’s been banished is a strange, but fortunate fact of life. They’re very neatly labelled "alimony".

Instead, he lowers Cloudpiercer into an idle stance- and the spear looks wrong too, even though it felt the same against the monsters’ flesh in Blade’s periphery- and says, in a level voice, “it’s been a while.”
That’s the breaking point- not his strange new horns, curved and resting against the curls of his hair like a crown, not the fact that even after his boots have settled back on the ground he still stands barely taller than Blade, not even the way his eyes, flecked with the same shade of gold as his horns, look straight into Blade’s without their familiar hesitation. It’s his voice, budding with something horrifyingly close to empathy. To genuine interest.
Blade is briefly overrun by the feeling that he doesn’t know this person.
