And they've always laughed it off with a wink and a joke. Not yet, they'd say in nearly perfect unison. A denial, but enough wiggle room left over to still keep people wondering. They've been walking a fine edge of what's acceptable as comedy and frowned upon as baiting for what feels like forever, is what it all boils down to. So it's time they finally put this thing to bed.

Now it was Beard’s turn to frown. “I can anyway?” It isn’t often he can’t track Ted. Oh. Wait. “No Coach, the doctor said you need to take it every night.”
"No, I mean, when you come home and I’m asleep, you could just…” Ted made a little full body shake that Beard knew was supposed to indicate “fuck” but if it were anyone else Beard would see it as a sign of an incoming seizure.
And that’s where the conversation got interesting.

“Interestingly, the identity of your mother would not fetch quite so many headlines as you being in hopeless gay love with a Premier League manager—”
“No need for the ‘gay’ part,” Trent tells her. “Just ‘hopeless love’ will do, thanks.”

Unfortunately, the universe seems tired of Ted tying himself into knots over this whole thing, and a little help from an evening pub visit pushes him to throw one final Hail Mary—for win or for lose.

Trent glares at the book propped open on the countertop as if it's going to start lobbing insults at him at any moment. It's not, of course, because the damn thing is an inanimate object — but Trent's also failing miserably at following directions.
Just because Trent leaves 95.3% of the cooking (and baking) to Ted doesn't mean he can't read a recipe book. Before he and Ted began dating Trent didn't always turn to takeaway for each and every meal.
But for a recipe as easy as sponge cake, it may as well be written in Latin for all the sense it's making at the present.
