She came to a stop, and he leant into her ear. She could smell the wine on his breath and the sweat on his skin, he was warm and alive next to her, yelling over the music, 'Your big friend can’t dance for the both of you, little bear!'
Laurel froze, tensed under his hands. He was too close. He was looking into her, through her. Before she knew what she was doing, her fist, comically raised to match the height of the taller man, was connecting with his cheek.
