As it swings in, Helena places one palm firmly against the wood. “I came all this way to speak with you. It’s cold, and I have a long drive back. It would be very rude of you not to invite me in for a hot beverage.”
Mark looks past her shoulder to the hulking black SUV parked haphazardly across the dirt track. Snow has already begun dusting the windshield. The sooner he invites her inside, the sooner she can leave. Then she won’t be his problem when the storm picks up.
“Thirty minutes,” he mutters. “Then you have to go.”

“Helping would be telling you to put the basket down and walk away,” Natalie counters. “At the very least, text me the address of the studio so I know where to start the search when you don’t come home tonight.”
“It’s not at a studio. It’s at his apartment.”
Natalie hisses through her teeth. “Oh you’re for sure going to die.”

Summary
She wasn’t sure what she was hoping for when she found Mark Scout. Helly had imagined this a hundred different ways, what she would tell him when they finally met. Her fists against his front door, or maybe his chest. Telling him he was a coward for running away from whatever it was up here that kept them trapped in a waking nightmare. That he was weak and selfish and cruel. That he had to give him back to her.
Mark Scout offers to buy her a drink instead.
