Summary
“Papá, ¿por qué nunca hablas de Tío Keith?”
Why don’t you ever talk about uncle Keith? Lance’s heart squeezes in his chest. The old wound feels especially fresh this morning, as it always does when he and his family hit milestones and Keith isn’t there to share them with. Of course Marí would wonder about him, since Lance had talked about the rest of the paladins this morning. He has been very carefully avoiding the topic today, choosing to focus on his daughter’s big day, but, in that innate way that all children have, she knows how to hit him right where it hurts.
“Well María,” he says gently, squeezing her hand. “Your Tío Keith disappeared a long time ago. Y me pone triste pensar en él.”

Summary
"Lance liked to daydream about what his soulmate might be like – when he felt scraped knees from a fall what wasn’t his, he wondered if his soulmate played tag with siblings too. When he felt a phantom loose tooth suddenly tugged out, he wondered if his soulmate’s parents bribed him with sweets the way that Lance’s did.
Keith tried not to think about his soulmate. A soulmate was just another person who would leave an aching hole in his chest when they left. When he felt scraped knees that weren’t his, or a loose tooth yanked free, he tried to pretend he didn’t feel it. He tried to pretend he didn’t have a soulmate at all."

Summary
As wartime birthdays in outer space go, Lance is having a decent one so far. But his friends seem to be keeping something from him, and he can’t figure out what it is until Red shows an interest in a visiting Blade ship.
“Keith!” Lance beams, not fully able to believe his eyes. “What are you doing here?”
“I heard a rumor it’s July 28th somewhere, and I happened to be in the sector.” He shrugs, unable to subdue his own smile; it merely takes on an adorable coy quality. “Thought I’d drop by.”
“Hey!” Pidge complains from the doorway. “Don’t discredit the months of work it took for us to orchestrate this. All that planning, and you’re still late!”
“We’ve been stalling for hours, man!” Hunk’s laughter betrays his feigned annoyance. “Did you at least bring the candles?”
“Sorry,” Keith replies, eyes never really leaving Lance. “I got held up, routine mission turned into a hostage situation. You know how it goes.”- OR -
mid-season 6, Keith returns to the castle of lions to celebrate Lance’s birthday. It’s supposed to only be for the day, but a series of strange coincidences keep preventing him from leaving. While he’s there, he starts to notice things at the castle aren’t quite the way he left them

Summary
“Keith,” he called out again, louder now. “Keith, —”
Keith stirred weakly.
A broken sound left his throat, somewhere between a groan and a breath. His head rolled slightly toward Lance, eyes fluttering open for half a second before slipping shut again. He was being half-dragged, half-carried by the Galran guards as he slipped in and out of consciousness. The blood dripped down from the wound on his head, past his eye and down to his chin.
Lance decided that he would do whatever he had to do to keep them together. They cannot get separated. Keith needs him. He can’t lose Keith.
“That’s it,” Lance said, voice shaking. “That’s it, okay? You’re doing great. Just—just keep breathing.”
Keith and Lance end up stranded on a planet after a mission goes wrong.
But that's only where their troubles begin.
Captured and tortured relentlessly, Keith finds something out about himself that shocks him to his core.
Terrified and delirious, Lance doesn't take it too well.
Their relationship strains before it shifts and deepens as they work together to escape alive. -

Summary
He totally lied to Shiro. He doesn’t want to be alone. His failures aren’t gone—they simply settled to the bottom of him like sediment. But now the sediment rises, polluting the waterways as it lingers within him, thick and irremovable.
How sure are the doctors that they removed that parasite from his body? What if a piece is still in there, clinging to life within Keith’s muscle, feeding off the blood that pumps through his veins, waiting to strike? He's desperate to open his arms back up himself. To peer at his veins, to pick through his tendons; to ensure not a trace of that monster remains.
