Summary
Jagged peaks of blue and black, flattened by distance, are the only feature of the snowy expanse below the plane. The cloudless sky bleeds into the white, the horizon a hazy line of muted blue across the curve of the earth before it darkens in counterpoint to the faint glow of the ice. There is still sun now, light just cresting over the boundary between land and sky, and within weeks even that will be gone.
Zuko watches Antarctica draw closer as the plane descends and tries very hard not to lose his last meal.
When Iroh suggested that Zuko get away for a bit, it sounded reasonable and even desirable—Zuko can’t imagine a better place to run from his issues. Now that he sees the barren stretch of ice and cold, the longer he sits here and the exact nature of what he’s signed up for has time to sink in, the more this feels like a banishment.

Zuko scoffed. “As always, I am the author of my own unhappiness.”
Sokka hummed. “Years ago, when it was just us travelling together, we came across this fortune teller. I didn’t believe any of that mumbo-jumbo. But then she said that my life would be full of struggle and anguish, most of it self-inflicted.”
It suited Zuko’s life extraordinarily well, he felt. “Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only person in the Fire Nation who has a vision of what it takes for this country to get better.”
Sokka turned to face him, but Zuko looked resolutely forwards. “That can’t be true.”
Zuko turns twenty-five. In spite of his best efforts, the Fire Nation seems to lurch from crisis to crisis. The firebenders have lost their flame, and the situation with the former colonies is only worsening. All the while, he's ill, lonely, and consumed by work.
And on the other side of the country, Sokka has just moved in with one Master Piandao.

Megumi wonders if Yuji would make the same desperate plea. If he begged Sukuna, for peace, for silence in his own mind, for him to help in this losing battle they always seem to find themselves in. He wonders what Yuji had offered in return. Certainly not this. Megumi couldn’t imagine him handing over the reins of control so easily. Yuji is resistance and will as a river is running and wild; he doesn’t think he could exist any other way. Yuji would not release Sukuna into the world. He would not leave sorcerers and civilians alike at Sukuna’s mercy, but Megumi is not Yuji. Megumi is weak, and he is in love, and he will do anything to see Yuji safe, consequences be damned.
Let Yuji go, Megumi begs. Let me see him whole and breathing, and I’ll give you control. I won’t try to stop you again.
Sukuna takes over his body, and then Megumi makes a deal with the devil.
