Summary
Lottie Matthews, shipped off to boarding schools since the age of seven, raised primarily by nuns, comforting identities that she speaks to in her meditations in the woods, and Van Palmer(her roommate). Things could’ve been different but Lottie, as hopeful a person as she is, goes with the flow.
Her situation takes a turn for the sticky and dysphoric when she gains eerie powers to be bestowed the title of Manhattan’s spider woman on the same day that she has her first meet-cute with the school's new girl.
Lottie Matthews. Is just a girl. Standing in front of another girl. Asking her to love her. (spider-lottie au where she’s just trying to get her first girlfriend while the multiverse and laws of physics collapse blah blah)

Natalie kicks at her shoulders.
The girl stirs, eyes blinking open hazardly. Her body twitches, actually twitches, then she’s hurriedly getting up, moving hesitantly as her hands stretches out around herself cautiously.
Or It’s summer and Natalie chooses to spend her time helping Lottie get her shit together while they do a bunch of stuff to earn money to get to nationals.

Spring 1996, the Yellowjackets go on their annual road trip to the Matthews lake house. In their youthful bubbles of naivety and joy, Lottie and Natalie traipses through the surrounding copse—the gentle haze of it all—hand in hand, an idle stag and a canine fawn.
For a moment, they feel that they could traipse through it all.

Nat crouches at the edge of the counter, one eye to the viewfinder, tongue between her teeth. She doesn’t pose her subject, doesn’t even ask her to move. She likes the moments between, when the steam curls in soft halos around a face mid-turn, half smiling, half somewhere else.
“Do you ever get tired of staring at me through that little box?” Lottie finally asks without looking back, voice lilting, amused.

nationals are coming up. the wiskayok yellowjackets' girls soccer team is in total pandemonium. and maybe it's because they're all dealing with their own equally extreme problems--seriously, they're all kinda going through it.
but maybe it's because each and every one of these girls, in their own way, is having a total sapphic breakdown.

Nat’s never even been to church. Not once. She knows a thing or two about human sexuality, though, and she’s guessing a random social science elective can’t be that hard, right? Turns out it's harder than you'd think when your professor looks like that and makes you want to do all kinds of unholy things.
