Luckily, he didn’t have long to stand there, numb. The girls appeared moments later.
Olly swallowed, hating that he needed to ask questions from them right now, but also desperately needing to know how yet another test had gone so sideways. He cleared his throat, getting the attention of all four apprentices, and eloquently managed to ask, “…what happened?”

Qifrey and Olruggio figure out what life looks like after the silverwood seed is gone. Fair warning, it starts with a good amount of angst but moves into lots of comfort. Full of yearning all the way through.
You definitely don't have to read the earlier bits in the series - it's all just a series of Olruggio and Qifrey yearning.

Tetia smiled. "But I might be away then! What do you say to an early reunion? Come on, Agott, it would be fun! When was the last time you saw Master Qifrey and Master Olruggio? We can ask Richeh to come, too!"
Thirteen years after Coco passed the third test and moved back to stay with her mother, Agott returns to the atelier.

Agott noticed a pattern between her master and his Watchful Eye. It seemed that whenever one of them was to get upset, the other would bring food to cheer them up.
Agott also noticed that Coco had been strangely quiet these days, as if she were worried about something. Agott wondered if she could cook something to cheer her up.
Alternatively, Agott learned how to cook Coco’s native hometown soup to cure her homesickness.
