Summary
“Oh Balerion! What could have been, if only I knew back then!?”
On the night King Viserys the Peaceful takes the hand of the Stranger, gives his last breath to Balerion, and joins the Great Hearth, the Queen that Never Was dreams in a fitful slumber.
Receiving flickers of the future, she wakes and resolves to do what is right to save her House and the future. Thus, the dance plays in a different key as Rhaenys takes a more active role guiding Queen Rhaenyra and the Blacks.
Despite these dreams, Rhaenys has the odds stacked against her. Not all dreams are believed. Nor have the dreams come at an optimal time. What can the Lady of Driftmark do when most of Westeros has been against her and the other women of House Targaryen since Aegon’s conquest? What can she do, for her cousin is dead, and the seeds have been sown for a realm-changing war?
All that Rhaenys can do is follow the warnings the Fourteen Flames have burdened her and guide her descendants, just like her ancestors did fleeing the Doom of Valyria.
Designed in two parts, with fourteen chapters each. There are also outtakes and a companion fic planned, TBD.

Rhaenyra had told him about her marriage tour. About the long hours on the ship and the even longer ones spent sitting before the sea of suitors who had come from every corner of the kingdom to fight for her hand. About the endless chatter full of grand words that actually meant very little. About how lords and ladies from every corner of the realm had come forward to compete for the hand of the princess and heir to the Throne.
More to secure the Throne than to win the princess.
Jace now found himself in the same situation as his mother.
When, at eighteen, he still showed no interest in taking a husband, his grandfather, or more precisely, Queen Alicent and the King’s Hand, Otto Hightower, had suggested subjecting him to the same torture as Rhaenyra.Or marry Aegon.
