Summary
In the Land of Monsters, Kai's everyday struggles against horrific creatures and unforgiving terrain created a passive habit of suicidal thought, a habit that didn't fade on his return to the monastery. With all of his support systems in havoc since The Merge, he sees no reason to keep going. Every day is a struggle to find some tiny reason to stay, knowing that one day, he'll run out of reasons.
He misses Jay dearly. Maybe he'd be able to talk Kai out of these terrible thoughts, just like Kai did for him years ago, but this person in the monastery isn't the Jay he knows. Is he?
A spiritual successor/sequel work to Vyoleya's work, "maybe i'll never sleep."

The little girl was crying and trying to shake the dragon awake. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what had happened.
Kai had been cautious in his approach, knowing that she had no reason to trust him. It had been the right move; she had growled turning her flames against him the instant she noticed Kai came closer. In response he sheathed his sword and forged a tiny spark in his own palm.
“It’s okay, I’m like you.”

“Are you okay?” Rin asks uselessly—a dumb question, but sue him, he doesn’t know what to do here!
There’s not even a response, just a soft whine of pain as Isagi hides his face further by tucking it under a trembling arm. His other arm is stretched out beneath him, hand gripping his ankle tightly like the pressure will distract him from the pain. Isagi’s breath is coming out in short, shallow puffs, like he’s hyperventilating and not getting enough oxygen into his system.
Rin feels—he feels useless, unable to reach Isagi in his personal world of pain, but wanting to help him so badly all the same.
“Fuck, Isagi…” He whispers, reaching a hand out before stopping abruptly.
