Jo, you never have to be alone again. You never have to hurt a person, or have them leave you, or die. You never have to suffer again. You get to be loved every day for the rest of your life by someone who can’t get hurt, can’t die, and won’t hurt you. Isn’t that beautiful? Just love, forever.”
“And that’s what you want?”
The Corinthian smiles, with all three mouths. “Of course,” he says. “It’s what I was made for.”

He’s the man of the house now, and he’s gotta get his shit together so that he can look after his mama and the girls. But even though he knows that, and he knows he ain’t got time to daydream about the cops swooping in and arresting that son of a bitch, because it’ll never happen-
Despite that, sometimes he still imagines it. Imagines Carl’s face when they kick the door of the cabin down and tell him he’s under arrest, and maybe he resists; maybe they have to rough him up a little and leave him bleeding, the way he leaves Derek bleeding. And maybe Carl starts crying, and he gets to echo Carl’s words back at him: man up, boy. Crying ain’t gonna stop anything.

This time it’s Ace’s turn to freeze. “Huh,” he says dumbly. He rocks forward, hand tight on the railing beneath him, and looks over at Luffy. “Uh, hey, Luf. There something I should know?”
“Nah,” Luffy says simply, and it seems like that’s that, for a moment. But then he points an accusing finger at Sanji with a little glare and goes, “Hey, I’m not a boy!”
“What?” they all go. Sanji, Nami, Usopp and Vivi. The only one who doesn’t say anything is Zoro, who just looks at Luffy like he— they? she?— is a puzzle to solve.
(Sanji, for her part, might be feeling a little bit betrayed.)

Summary
Sanji liked to stay on the positive side when it came to other people and their odd little behaviors and quirks, but it didn’t seem quite right to do it for his own. It was easier to think in terms of debt and survival and penance than focusing on the positives.
The mouse sitting on his shoulder, observing his meal prep, squeaked at him, and Sanji smiled.
This indulgence was done in honor of all the poor mice friends who had been killed because he showed them kindness. When Sanji reached his hand up to offer scraps too small to save for Luffy, the mouse nuzzled his fingers.
No other reason.
