Summary
Jon returns to the Institute a week and 4 days later to see a dead man lying on a desk.
”Tim?”
They meet eyes, and Jon is the first to look away. Tim scoffs and slides off the desk to stand, walking towards Jon soundlessly.
Face to face they stand, and Tim says at last, “Of course you’re the only one who can fucking see me. Of course.”

A corpse walks again, Jon repents for his sins, and all is most certainly not forgiven.

Summary
”Glad you think my poetry’s mundane,” Martin says drily.
Jon looks stricken at Martin’s comment, and blurts out, “I didn’t mean it like that, I only–”
”Joking, joking.”
”O-oh,” Jon says. He looks relieved. Odd. Martin wouldn’t have pegged him as the type to care about whether he offended someone. Especially if that someone was Martin Blackwood.

Summary
Tim lives for those smiles and laughs, the casual banter they exchange as he pushes closer, and Jon stops pulling away. It’s not consistent progress; some days Jon barely speaks to him, and other days they’re going back and forth like old friends, but every day is good, because it’s Jon.
All of this, however, comes to a head when Tim gets to work one day, sees Jon, and feels something that he’s not entirely sure he can name. And of course, he goes to Sasha about it.

Figuring it all out is easier with a friend, even if you don’t get to the bottom of things.

Summary
Tim sucks in a breath, and continues, “All people ever see is either that I’m someone who needs to be fixed or someone they can use, and it would be a real fucking relief if someone could see me for more than they think I am when I’m open and proud.”
Jon blinks, and the first thing that comes out of his mouth is, “I’m bi as well, if we’re talking, ah, labels.”
He can feel Tim still beside him, freezing up in surprise.
”And asexual, this isn’t a, a come-on or anything, I’m very much not interested,” he adds hastily. It really wouldn’t do to be misinterpreted right now. “I only wanted to say that, well, I see you. For more than that. Because I’m your friend, and because, well, yes.”

Finding someone who understands you, who will stand by you, is such a rare and beautiful thing.

Summary
”If you’d told me,” Jon starts, but Sasha interrupts.
”If we’d told you, you would’ve gone mad trying to organize everything perfectly, and we wanted to keep it casual. No sense in any of us being stressed out, after all. And Tim’s exaggerating, it wasn’t that bad.”
”And it was supposed to be a surprise!” Tim adds.
Jon smiles down at Tim, and it’s hard to keep his expression from overflowing with fondness. "It was a very good surprise,” he says gently. “Thank you, both of you.”

Before the Archives, there was the research department. Before Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist, there was Jonathan Sims, researcher. And there was Tim, and there was Sasha. They were happy together, for a while.
