However now he must learn to not only coexist with one, but ride his wyvern as well! On top of that, the one teaching him how to be a rider is a prickly piece of work. Mu Qing, a rider with three wyverns, clashes with Feng Xin like ice and fire. All Feng Xin wants is to go back to his home and his normal life as a hunter. However the longer he stays with his wyvern, the more he can't deny the connection between them. But that isn't the only connection burgeoning in Feng Xin's heart...
Or... Feng Xin and Mu Qing coparent a baby wyvern and maybe fall in love in the process.

Summary
Mu Qing is dying.
Two years after he almost lost life, limb, and pride at Mount Tonglu, the god of the Southwest is standing face-to-face with his own mortality yet again. But this time, not even the people he cares for can save him from a sick core. He has one year (maybe) and a god's worth of loose ends to tie before the end.
The problem is Feng Xin, who has chosen now, of all the centuries available to him, to finally look back.
Mu Qing has spent eight hundred years making peace with wanting what he couldn't have. He'd gotten very, very good at it. He is considerably less good at it with 12 months left on the clock and Feng Xin's eyes on him like he's something worth keeping.

Summary
A long, long time ago, when they were all young and mortal, Mu Qing entered the service of the crown prince Xie Lian under suspicious circumstances. Or well, Feng Xin is rather clear that he's another one of Xie Lian's charity cases. But even eight hundred years before he figures out the truth behind Mu Qing's acquaintance with Xie Lian, he is forced to reconsider his initial assessment as he witnesses how his fellow young masters treat Mu Qing.
Or: Mu Qing gets bullied, Feng Xin gets confused, and Xie Lian upset. They emerge as something like friends from it.

But he’s a nineteen year old boy who’s in love with his best friend, so all he can think about is how unfair it is that even in the unflattering pale yellow of their shitty kitchen lamp, Feng Xin still looks beautiful enough to kiss silly.
