It’s a miracle, really. Not just that the Joining was reversed, but that there were little to no lingering side-effects after the year that to most just felt like a strange dream. No brain damage. No societal collapse. No mass trauma. It’s only been eight months, and the world is already back to some semblance of normal.
And don’t worry, Carol. The United States government will take excellent care of the botched science experiment we found living in your basement.

Summary
After only three months, they've done it: Manousos and Carol have found a way to cure the virus, or at least to dissolve that "psychic glue" that's binding everyone together and making them all smiley and accommodating all the time. Now they just have to test it.
And who better to try it out on than Carol's ex? Making Zosia an unwilling participant in their heroic science experiment seems like the best option, but maybe our heroes didn't think this one all the way through.

Summary
She still loved Carol, after the unjoining. She loved her in exactly the same way. Her feelings hadn't changed from one moment to the next, from when she was joined to when she was unjoined. Why would they? She was still the same person.
The problem wasn't that Zosia didn't love Carol. The problem was that Carol didn't love Zosia. She didn't know Zosia. She had neither fallen in love with the Zosia of before nor the Zosia of afterward, she had fallen in love with the Zosia of during. She had fallen in love with them. And Zosia wasn’t them anymore.

Summary
Carol absentmindedly traces the scars. The thought that Zosia makes her violence look beautiful crosses her mind before the guilt takes over that too. Her hand stills, then she removes it entirely from the other woman’s back. Carol hovers, not daring to take yet more for herself, but equally as unable to leave behind the warmth radiating from Zosia’s body.
“Are you alright, Carol? Have we upset you?”, the question comes, as always, anticipating her every need.
„No!“, she blurts out, cringing immediately.
She withdraws her hand and lets it fall into the water that now seems just a little too cold to be comfortable. Carol draws a shallow breath, hurriedly forcing a smile on her face as Zosia glances back at her. It doesn’t reach her eyes. The brunette smiles kindly, as she always does, and Carol feels irritation rise within her.
„No, of course not.“, she continues with a sigh, letting her gaze drop to her offending hands, now submerged in the bathwater.

Carol is forced to confront the consequences of her explosive temper.
