Summary
"Didn’t make any friends during orientation?”
She laughed- then stopped abruptly because that was actually not a joke. “Um…no. I don’t make friends easily.”
She waited for him to look at her with pity, or offer false reassurances. He looked mildly contemplative instead. “I think most people’s ‘friends’ are actually just acquaintances, anyway.”
Mel blinked. “You think so?”
“It’s important to remember that most people are bullshitting you like…at least sixty percent of the time.”
Mel wasn’t sure if this extended to him. If it did, would he tell her? Probably not.

Summary
"Mel," he repeated, sturdier this time. "You're…. you're killing me here."
"How so?" she asked automatically, voice husky and sincere. Frank laughed under his breath.
"Mel," was all he could say again, his voice dropping another octave. The skin behind her ears prickled at the pleading tone in his words. "Please."
She swallowed roughly, her fingers stilling against his hot skin. Another step too far. Another tread past plausible deniability. But she deserved nice things. They both did.
In which Langdon's offer to fix Mel's leaky sink turns into a revelation of tattoos and one relationship redefining moment

Summary
All things considered, it was probably for the best that Mel King was a Beta. She couldn't imagine being overwhelmed by scent and instinct 24/7 like an Alpha or an Omega, so she really couldn't be too upset on that front. Not to mention also the other social layers to the designations, no thank you.
Being a Beta was safe and boring. Dr. Langdon didn't seem to mind befriending them either, so that was a plus.
As hectic as the Pitt could be, the return of her favorite doctor did a lot for Mel's peace of mind, even if he smelled kind of good and was kind of too nice to her. He was a little bullheaded about it, but that's just how Alphas were. Right? Yeah.
