“Flo.” He whispers, his breath touching his lips allowing the shiver to finally grow up his spine, rearranging everything he’s known, shaking with an anticipation that flares inside him. “Kiss me.”
And, Flo’s brain short-circuits all over again, honeyed adrenaline cascading through his veins, sticky and gooey and golden and he pushes himself up, kissing Jamal square on the mouth.

Flo’s eyes snap to his. The words surprise Jamal too. They sound like a boundary. They sound like a lie.
“Nothing else,” Jamal adds, because one of them has to say it. Because the shape of the night needs edges. Because if he names the line out loud, maybe he can still pretend he is not already halfway over it.
Flo nods immediately. Too quickly.
“Nothing else,” he says.
After a year of silence, injury, and almost-goodbyes, Jamal has plans for seeing Flo again. He has breathing exercises, boundaries, and every reason to know better.Then the storm comes, and all his careful lines blur.
