“You are serious?” Ilya asks. Then, “You are sure?”
Truthfully, no. There are a thousand and one reasons Shane could name right now as to why this was still a stupid idea, the potential risks, how he’s still not even sure he could actually perform without freaking out halfway through and ruining the night.
On the other hand, Shane has never been more sure of anything since he realized he wanted to marry Ilya.
“Yes,” he says, trying to look and sound casual. Shane sees Ilya open his mouth to say something, probably something annoying like ‘you have never been casual a day in your life, Hollander’ he can just hear it now.
He shrugs, very casually, and beats Ilya to it. “It’s your birthday, if you want something else, we don’t have to. But you’ve said before that you wanted us to have a sex tape, so…”

He and Sam have been inseparable since they were seven, when Sam was a new face in Pelican Town just moved in from the city, and even back then Sebastian was so ready to leave and explore. But with Sam, he stays. With Sam, all other points of navigation go out the window, because all roads lead Sebastian back to him, and it doesn’t matter where they go.

In Sam’s room, the first time. They had just finished penning a song that had been proving to be difficult, but once it was done, it was very much their best work yet.
“This rocks! I’m so happy I could kiss ya!” Sam says, his fingers retracing the final chords on his guitar, and then Sebastian does.

Ness blinks in slow motion. It would be a lie to say he hasn’t considered this hypothetical before — usually when someone cuts him off in traffic, or after he’s spent hours online arguing with people who think they know Kaiser better than him — but no one has ever been bold enough to ask him outright. Especially not someone like Kaiser, who sounds all too earnest when he asks and looks far too beautiful tucked under Ness’ arm, docile in post-coital warmth.
Pillow talk, that’s all it is.

It’s an all too familiar song and dance; so much so that when he gets word that Valentino is on another rampage, Vox doesn’t pay it any mind. He rolls his eyes, squares his shoulders, and takes a few more business calls. What’s a few more dismembered models if they’re stupid enough to get in Val’s way when he’s in a pissy mood?
What he doesn’t expect is the unsettling chill in the air when he finally makes it up to Valentino’s floor, the somber silence behind closed doors.

“Gil—” J.J. says, but Shane doesn’t want him to finish that sentence, to pull Comeau gently off the ledge he’s steering himself toward. Shane wants to push him, kicking and screaming, to make them say it to his fucking face. That after all this time, they still hate him for the heinous crime of falling in love.
“We’ve been married for two years,” Shane says. “I’m not sure that qualifies as playing house. I mean, it’s longer than you were with your first wife, isn’t it?”
Or: Shane reunites with his former teammates at J.J.'s bachelor party. He's finally ready to say (and maybe punch) his piece.

Ilya hums, playing the card he's been considering for this entire conversation. “We could make more interesting, yes? A bet.”
“A bet,” Shane repeats, eyes flashing. “Like what?”
The reporter cuts in. “What about wearing the other player’s jersey?”
They both turn to her, and Shane says, “Like, the loser wears the winner’s jersey?”
“Maybe at the next game in a couple of months?”
“Is a good idea,” Ilya muses, nudging Shane’s elbow. “You will look better in my jersey than in Montreal jersey.”
Shane makes a low noise, his eyes holding a bit of a spark when he looks back to Ilya. It’s what Ilya was hoping for—the tiniest crack in the mask. He can see a hint of exasperated affection around the corners of Shane’s eyes, a little bit of fire burning just beneath the surface. It sends a thrill down Ilya’s spine, and he wonders if Shane will be snarky when Ilya gets him naked tonight.
“That’s not happening,” Shane replies, shaking his head. “Because you’re not winning.”

Summary
Alex has always made it a point to mind his own business. He wakes up, works out, heads to the beach, or helps out around the house, then goes to bed. Rinse and repeat, adding the occasional two-hour phone call from Haley updating him on her summer in Zuzu City. If anyone asks, he won’t be here for much longer, onto bigger and better things, like earning a spot on a professional gridball team.
Sebastian isn’t one to open up to people. He has Sam and Abigail, and that’s more than enough for him, seeing as he won’t be in Pelican Town by this time next year. Or, that’s what he tells himself each time someone interrupts his work or makes band practice run later than it needs to. He’s alone, happy, and has no plans to change that.
Until the night Alex catches sight of a light coming from inside the abandoned Community Center, and Sebastian is just crossed enough to let his mind run away with itself.
