He wasn’t thinking about anything important. Just idle fragments drifting through his head. Whether getting up to make food was worth the effort, what time he had to leave the next morning to slip back into HQ without anyone noticing his absence, whether the cut on his ribs would scar.
The kind of thoughts that fill the space when you’re too tired to build walls.Zanka shouldn’t have thought it.
But the second it surfaced, it sank its teeth into him.

“Ya never seen a uniform ‘fore?” He did a little spin to show off his outfit.
“But it’s not yer uniform.” Zanka leaned his back against the counter and watched Jabber with an unamused expression. “Ya ain’t got a job.”
“I started yesterday.” It sounded more like a question than a statement.
“An’ changed ya name ta ‘Deryl’?” Jabber crowded his space by placing a hand on either side of him, effectively caging him in. The last rays from the evening sun shone through the window and onto his shirt. It made the horrendous red color practically glow, which irritated Zanka’s eyes. He averted his gaze up to escape the color but was met with the just-as-bright underside of Jabber’s cap. Maybe if he glared hard enough the cap would burst into flames…
Zanka is supposed to be babysitting Rudo when a certain someone decides to pay him a visit.

Summary
In all their fights and breaks and whatever else people would call it, there had never been someone new. Even in the bitterness and hatred, it had been just the two of them. Maybe Jabber was foolish, maybe she’d grown too content with what her and Zanka had going on that she didn’t even consider it, didn’t even consider Zanka pursuing other options and ditching her for something she deemed ‘better’. Jabber needed to blow off some steam.
Zanka has been avoiding Jabber for weeks now and Jabber is determined to figure out why.

Unfortunately for Zanka, he was weak when it came to his feelings, obsession and infatuation certainly didn’t help his mental state when mixed with an unknown variable. These only manifested after meeting a certain Raider by the name of Jabber Wonger, it also doesn't help that the obsession is mutual—it should be gross, but.. why doesn't it feel gross like it’s supposed to?
He feels disgusting now. He never imagined inflicting pain could feel so—good? It’s nice that he has a willing participant for his unnatural behavior at least..
____________I feel like I didn’t add enough internalized homophobia or repressed sadism but it’s okay.. maybe, also I suck at writing fights so that’s why the fight itself isn’t very long sorry

Summary
“You never mean it,” Zanka finally answers his question; his brows are still furrowed, and Jabber thinks that this really does matter to him. If he were anybody else, he would want to reach forward and soothe the line of tension that sits on Zanka's back; he would drag his palm down his spine until Zanka let out a sigh of relief, but Jabber is not anybody else. He punches Zanka in the face, and it feels like a kiss when Zanka swears.
“What's that matter?” Jabber asks now, because Jabber wonders why Zanka would care about whether or not the grin that was plastered on his face was real; it makes no difference if this sickly sweet mania is falsified; it makes no difference to what the two of them are with each other.

Cthoni is sent on a solitary mission to a remote city where food is found in an abundance, food the small scavenger group calling themselves “Raiders” that she has found herself aligned with does not have. Bandits of any kind are not welcome, even ones as lowly as she. So, she must be careful.
Still, it is a task of relative simplicity.
That is until a small child that insists on bothering her as much as possible makes it more difficult than not to complete her objective without drawing attention. Or on the self imposed task of not thinking about what it might be like to be a mother.

Last time was just a fluke. A once-off thing. Zanka definitely didn't avoid hand-to-hand training because it made him hard, and he definitely wasn't avoiding Raiders, either- not any more than usual, at least. So either he's incredibly unlucky or just a really magnetic guy. Jabber can't seem to get enough.

When Jabber steps towards him, Zanka’s stomach drops. He can’t feel the vibrations through the floor at all, but he can see Jabber’s bare feet touching the floor. At this distance, not even someone as nimble as Riyo could escape him completely, so why is Jabber– someone who is not likely a trained mercenary– perfectly silent? It’s almost as if he’s a ghost.
“Noticed it, huh?” Jabber laughs, raising an eyebrow, and Zanka stills.
Or: Jabber dies, and Zanka is the only one who can see his ghost. This inevitably causes a lot of problems.

Jabber dying in the most anticlimactic, ironic, and terrible ways possible and on top of all of that it directly mirrors the way his mom died and on top of all of that his soul can’t move on because he’s been carrying guilt and regret for leaving her behind for YEARS? And then he’s forced to be vulnerable and spill his heart out to zanka until he’s drained and empty bc he’s the only one that can see him and zanka’s nijiku ass does the opposite and lies and betrays and tries to be as detached as he can so that letting jabber go eventually wont destroy him emotionally, but then it doesn’t even end up being worth it because when it happens all zanka feels is grief sadness and regret and guilt because jabber passed on without knowing he’d be grieved at all or that he was cared about and zanka can’t confide in anyone about this 😃 so anyway
