The Commissioner embodies the word. There are tight wrinkles by his eyes and dour lines around his mouth. Strong swathes of grey cut through his hair.
“I would welcome you,” he says, eyes flinty, “but my boys don’t want you here, and frankly, I doubt you’re prepared for what you’re about to get into. None of you ever are.”
