"I know," he responds. The words are pulled from his mouth like Lando has strings tied to the back of his vocal cords connected to keys like pianos and he knows just how to make Oscar sing. He doesn't think knives or scissors would fit down his throat to cut them the way he wishes they could.
"Yeah. I know you know. Wouldn't have said it otherwise."

It had been a whole ordeal, from overhearing the phone call at his business lunch with Alex to driving him to the station to meet George to somehow, half-mindlessly offering up his spare room. When they’d arrived, there Lando had been: curled up, teeth chattering, arms wrapped around his shoulders.
It was nearly an hour later and just a block from Oscar’s apartment when he’d realized Lando’s shivering hadn’t stopped and made the silent decision to reroute to the hospital.

Lando's twisted wrong. His legs are pinned. His arms are curled tight to his chest, shaking, and his face is slick with blood and snot and tears. He’s gasping in little shallow stutters, and his mouth keeps moving like he’s trying to speak, but all that comes out is a bubbling whimper.
Oscar feels something crack in his chest.

Oscar lowers the files. Stares at George, who just stares back. “Down there?”
“Look, I voted against telling you. But Alex seems to think it would be mean to leave you out of research you worked on. I know you don’t share that sentiment, Piastri."
Or: There's a black hole in the centre of the Earth. Oscar Piastri is a Nobel-decorated physicist, with nothing to show for it but an addiction to cigarettes and a ring without a finger to put it on. These two things have more in common than one might think.
