“I broke a violin onstage.” Just the words seemed to upset Lestat. Louis watched his chin tremble as he stared daggers into the carpet. “I’ve not done that before.”
This was the monumental issue that had held up production for nearly a week? The part of Louis that still believed in Lestat’s sparse shreds of integrity wanted to trust that this wasn’t just an erratic meltdown, but he was making it very difficult.

The bed in Lestat’s hotel room was big as an ocean. Wide open as a night that blossomed with stars, big enough to drown in it if you really wanted to. Soft, crisp sheets stretched over the mattress white as bridal lace. And as Louis pressed his hands to Lestat’s bare shoulders and shoved him down on it, he thought—Let this be our wedding day.
The bed was the sky and Lestat’s flesh was a meteor flashing across it. Louis straddled his hips and fell down against him to seal their mouths together. Deep inside the cavern of his head, he could still hear it—the resonant belt of Lestat’s voice in the bar where he’d serenaded Louis. Down on his knees in front of dozens of strangers as a crimson cascade of tears tumbled down his cheeks.

The arena was too loud.
Louis felt the bass before he properly heard it, the vibrations rising through concrete and steel to settle unpleasantly beneath his ribs. White lights swept endlessly over the crowd below, catching glitter, sweat, upturned faces shining with the particular ecstasy of mortals permitted proximity to something beautiful enough to ruin them. They screamed themselves ragged for a vampire who had once played piano for Louis through his large iPad screen, candlelight wavering gold across his face while rain battered the windows of his Montreal apartment.
It still unsettled him sometimes, seeing Lestat like this. Not the fame, because Lestat had always required attention the way fire required oxygen. What disturbed him was the scale of it. The noise. The sheer appetite of it all. The complete surrender of himself to spectacle.

Because how could one ask their husband what they meant by pleasuring his mother. The words just refused to come out at the profound wrongness of it. So he settled for the next best thing he could ask. “Comfort you how?” he rasped out.

Louis and Lestat rekindled their relationship after all the drama because of the book and they are working hard to make it work this time. It’s still not perfect but they managed a relative peace for the past two years. That is, until Gabrielle came to town for a visit.
Or, how Louis (alternatively) reacts to finding out about his ex-husband’s past with his mother.
