See, because Jason is apparently an idiot, the family had placed a bet on this game of monopoly. The first to go bankrupt would have to do this stupid trend that Dick had seen online, where grown children go up to their parents randomly and climb into their laps to see how they react.
Sure, why the hell not! This will be so funny when anyone but him loses.
… and then Jason goes bankrupt first.
OR:
Jason loses a bet. But when Bruce finds out about the bet, he reacts in a way the family would never expect.

What will be best for Jason? That’s what really matters. Jason isn’t comfortable around the manor, he’s uncomfortable and miserable, and his guard is still high and unrelenting. Damian refuses to let Jason bounce back and pretend like nothing has happened. Jason is human, he is a person with feelings who gets hurt. Jason has gotten hurt enough for ten lifetimes, and Damian knows that there’s still more hurt ahead, but he, at the very least, wants to make that hurt as manageable as possible. He never really got over it. He’s been a vigilante for over a decade, he’s seen his friends and family get hurt so many times that he should have gotten inured to it at this point. He hasn’t gotten used to it, it still hurts just as much, he’s just gotten much better at ignoring it, at pushing everything aside and pretending.

Tim drags himself up the stairs, rubbing his hands down his face when he has the ridiculous urge to cry. It’s fucking pathetic, to be sniffling like an absolute baby just because his family is too preoccupied to cuddle.
Loneliness is a familiar shape of grief and so there is no reason for him to be choking back tears. But the same way his scent gland has never calloused over, he is somehow still unaccustomed to the presumed rejection of busyness.
His body allows him to enter the pack den before he falls apart. As soon as the door clicks behind him, he sobs. He knows he’s being such a fucking baby, crying for no valid reason, but he can’t help it. Tim is unable to stifle his whines, whimpering like a kicked dog. Tears stream down his face, a keen billowing out of his throat before he can bite it down.
It hardly matters. This particular room is both scent and sound proof. It’s the one place where he won’t be heard. No one will find him unless they seek him out, and he sets himself up for disappointment when no one opens the door.
Tim whimpers and wails and no one comes.

We’ve found shelter before and we will again, whatever it takes.” Though it’s hardly the first time they’ve found refuge in an abandoned building, it’s not often that Jason actually has to pick the lock. He can’t blame the kid for being nervous.
