He’s nodding his head to the music, his whole body seemingly relaxed in a way Bradley couldn’t mimic even if he tried. He’s always got that casual air around him, like he moves out of intuition and the rest of the world simply decides to cooperate with the space his body occupies. Bradley can’t criticise that; he’d move along with it too, if it meant he could get a glimpse of his laid-back nature for just a little longer.
Bradley leans his head against the wall as he contemplates how it’s possible for a person to care so little about being perceived. It makes no sense. Bradley is convinced that if he were to start dancing as idiotically as Max and his friends are right now, people would turn their heads and start laughing at him. How come nobody cares? How come Bradley isn’t laughing? He’s just standing here, watching like it’s a performance, watching. It’s objectively ridiculous, but he doesn’t really feel like it is, doesn’t feel like laughing.

But then Billy swallows, uncertainty entering his expression for the first time. “But we don't know if he'd be willing to trade a crown for us,” he says, something raw in his voice.
“He already traded his freedom for you,” Bea points out, “It'll take some work to get him out-” Some is definitely an understatement, she knows that, but she has to believe that there is a chance, because she knows that hope is a terrible, rough-edged creature, but it is still a living one that can become theirs. “But what's one more case?” Bea asks, and there is more life in her voice than she has felt in ages.
And Billy grins, something sharp as shrapnel in his smile.
