Summary
Sometime in the early 1980s, the future Emperor of Wutai raided a Shinra lab in a small town called Nibelheim, and brought an unusual prize home with him: a small boy who had been an experimental subject. Godo Kisaragi proceeded to raise the child as his own.
More than a decade later, Prince Sephiroth Kisaragi returns to Nibelheim as part of a campaign to liberate the Western Continent from the clutches of Shinra. There he meets a young man named Cloud Strife, and, on impulse, offers him an opportunity to train to become part of Wutai's most elite military company.
And history begins to swirl . . .

Having Deepground and Jenova and Hojo all dealt with doesn't mean that the Shinra Corporation is suddenly surrounded by sweetness, light, and popular approval. An assassination attempt on the President leads to Tseng being injured, and Rufus is enraged.
