Bruno Bucciarati’s heart wasn’t beating. He recognized the unnaturally still feeling from the brief time his heart had been stopped on the train, but this time there was no panic, no agony. No rush of adrenaline in his chest, no drop of fear and urgency in his stomach. When he picked up the still-unconscious Trish, he realized that his fingers had no feeling - he had to look down to make sure he was holding her stably. As he ran out of San Giorgio Maggiore, there was no quickened pulse, no prickle of sweat, no feeling of exertion.
When he placed Trish into the boat, it occurred to him that since Giorno had healed him, he had only been breathing before speaking. Otherwise, he hadn’t needed to.
He was certain he was dead.
