"Young master", Flins speaks up as if nothing strange is going on, as if there isn't a person seated right next to him that looks exactly like the fae. He gestures to the table, where two glasses of water are already waiting for Illuga to take them, "Please come in, you must be parched after such an arduous journey".
He is but... isn't there a more pressing matter at the time...?
A ley line disorder occurs and it is up to Illuga to handle the rather pleasurable consequences.

The normally peaceful ambience of the Final Night Cemetery was broken by the panting cries of a lightkeeper. Of the two present in front of the old lighthouse, Illuga was the one disturbing the peace so to speak, but if you were to ask the young captain, the fault lay entirely with Flins.

It all happens at once, a blur of movement, action without conscious thought.
Illuga takes hold of Lohen’s wrist and twists. It’s quick and violent and effective—a question Lohen must answer in a fraction of a second: drop the knife or suffer. Drop the knife or bear witness to his own ligaments tearing.
Lohen gasps, letting the knife slip from his hold. It buries itself upright in the dirt, and when Illuga wrenches him downward, Lohen goes to his knees beside it.
Illuga wants to pretend he doesn’t need their secret trysts. Lohen’s not fond of pretending.

Summary
Summer came the closest the Lightkeepers got to an off-season, a scant month when the sun glowed at all hours, never setting. Since the Wild Hunt preferred the cover of darkness, the greatest enemy to Ratniki was boredom, this summer more than any in memory. Only two weeks into the nightless days, Illuga hadn’t fought the Hunt in a month, and it was much the same over the rest of Nod-Krai, a welcome rest after three successive crises, beginning with Rerir and ending with Roland.
Illuga should be elated. He passed by the graves of Lightkeepers every night on patrol. He shouldn’t want to fight something.

i read this with tears and snot everywhere at 1am maniacally screaming at my priv that my head hurts but i would do it all over again. works like this is how i realize time and rime again how much labor of love fanworks are. i am truly grateful to have read one such as this. im grateful to love faelight and grateful that we share the same sentiment. thanku for the snot btw i cant sleep bc i cant breathe from it and i have work in 5 hours this fic was worth everything

He uses what is perhaps his last shred of sanity to say, “I hope Young Master isn’t getting himself injured on purpose.”
Illuga laughs, breathless. “No, I promise. Just bad luck.” His hand slides from Flins' cheek down to his jaw, thumb brushing over his lower lip. “Or good luck, depending on the perspective.”

As Illuga fell asleep, he drew the lantern closer into his chest, and Aedon wanted to scream. She could see the flicker of blue flame dancing and growing brighter inside the glass, clearly enjoying the comfort. That should’ve been her.
That was the last strike. This perverted lantern fae was so going to get it.
The lantern fae Flins was getting too brave yearning for her master, and Aedon took it upon herself to teach him a lesson.

Flins was surprised by how much he enjoyed it—Illuga vulnerable, utterly at his mercy. It occurred to him that he could do anything to him right then, use him however he pleased, and Illuga could do nothing about it. The thought lifted the hair on Flins’s neck with an unexpected frisson of pleasure. Oh, what fools desire made of men.

It wasn’t often that he managed to fluster the ever so teasing Flins.
“We can find a way to work this out,” Illuga insisted, his hand finding Flins' to hold it in empathy.

Flins sees the ghosts behind those pleading eyes, the shadows he tries to bathe in light, to pretend his lantern could drown them out rather than push them further into the corners of his mind. And he knows the stories, knows the haunted past that Illuga doesn’t like to talk about, the reason Flins’ answer matters.
He settles on a simple, yet vague truth.
“I am… not so easily killed,” he admits.
“If you’re lying to me,” Illuga says. “I will summon you from the grave and kill you myself.”
