The vampire presses the stake back into Yuuta’s hand.
He closes Yuuta’s hand around the wood. His fingers guide Yuuta’s grip, adjusting him with the patient precision of someone correcting a child’s posture, until the stake sits properly against his palm and the sharpened point faces the vampire’s own chest.
“There,” he says. “If you are going to hold it, hold it properly.”
Yuuta cannot breathe.
The vampire stands close enough now that one hard push would do it.
And now Yuuta knows, with a certainty that settles deeper than his fear, what kind of hunter he wants to be.

Yuuta sucks in a sharp breath, then whispers, as if his office door isn’t already closed, “We are at work, Toge.”
Laughter is all Yuuta is met with, and before he can bite back, Toge points to his computer screen, drawing his attention to the document now quickly filling up with a long string of “w”s.
“Oh, shit.” Yuuta lifts his hands from the keyboard and tries to delete the embarrassingly long line of nonsense. “Look what you made me do. You’re ruining my work productivity here!”
Toge smirks down at him with a familiar glint in his eye, and oh. Oh, Yuuta’s in trouble. Because Toge’s about to get in trouble.
Toge lifts his hand from Yuuta’s lap, leans back on the desk, and signs, “What are you gonna do about it?”
