“No relationship is perfect, especially when you have to meet in the middle. But I’m very happy.”
“I gather your Max is not from your world, then?” the reporter gently presses for details.
“Uhm.” Charles looks down at his hands and smiles. His Max. “I’ll just say that… I know how to drive, he knows Aristotle.”Or: Charles is a F1 driver, Max is doing his PhD at Cambridge. It really shouldn’t work. Somehow, it does.

Summary
Sometimes, the cold lighting of the meeting rooms in Milton Keynes would catch just so on the string around Max's finger and he’d do a doubletake at its colour. Under the fluorescents, it looked faded, as if someone had siphoned out some of its vibrancy.
He wished he could photograph it, so that he could compare how it changed day by day. Prove to himself that he wasn’t imagining things. That he really was dying.
-----
OR, Charles unknowingly rejects his and Max's soulbond on a cloudy evening in Austria in 2019. Max won't go where he's not wanted, even if that means he's signing his own death warrant.

BREAKING NEWS: Crash halts Miami Grand Prix as race is red-flagged
At 184 miles per hour, Max Verstappen's car hits the barrier and his world goes dark. The crash report later records a peak of 380G—higher than any documented survivable incident in motorsport history, and higher than anyone should be able to walk away from.
While the FIA asks questions and the media chases headlines, Charles Leclerc occupies a plastic chair in a hospital waiting room that he refuses to leave. He and Max were never supposed to be anything more than rivals who fell into bed together, but as the hours stretch into days and Max remains unconscious, Charles is forced to confront what he's been avoiding for a year: this stopped being casual a long time ago, and the only question left is whether Max will wake up to hear him admit it.
(Or: The crash heard around the world.)

Summary
Charles Leclerc has two problems.
Problem one: Iron Man. Insufferable. Narcissistic. Calls him baby during briefings and makes inappropriate comments about his ass in those red regulation trousers. Charles wants to throw him off a tower. Preferably daily.
Problem two: Max Verstappen. Brilliant. Kind. Has the most distracting blue eyes Charles has ever seen. Charles wants to kiss him senseless. Preferably daily.
It takes Charles an embarrassingly long time to realize he only has one problem.

Summary
And somewhere in the space between sleep and waking, in that liminal place where impossible things feel possible, Charles thinks: I would do anything to go back. Anything.
The universe, it seems, is listening.
Max Verstappen dies on Sunday, on lap seventy-seven of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc wakes up on Thursday. Again. He thinks the universe has given him a second chance. It hasn’t. It’s given him a choice.
Or: A time-loop romance about inevitability, grief, and the terrifying possibility that saving someone and loving them are not the same thing.
