Summary
Two key truths had remained constant for Jay McCarrol since his childhood: one, Matt was always there; and two, Jay had no real sense of direction in his life.
On the rare occasions in which he had allowed himself to reflect on it, Jay had always ended up reaching the same conclusion: a change in number one must be the key to changing number two.
After experiencing a timeline without Matt at his side and making the decision to go back to set things right, though, Jay realizes how much he values the life that they have together, and it finally occurs to him that maybe the purpose that he’s been searching for his whole life has been right there in front of him the entire time.
Or, Jay decides to propose to Matt.

Okay. Fine. Whatever. He's going to get it over with. Jay's going to kiss him. He's going to kiss Matt. Honestly, it'll probably be really normal. Or like, just kind of gross, because Matt is kind of gross. They did everything together. He had only been nervous earlier because it was going to be so public. His heart was only hammering because he'd just been running for like fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes is a long time for someone to run continuously.

“Step one!” He exclaimed, writing on the board as he spoke. “We…get…married.” He pressed ahead, leaving no room for interruptions. Jay’s melody eased into something a bit slower, lighter, guiding Matt’s words.
“Step two! We go to the Rivoli…we say ‘Hi we just got married and this is our reception. Oh look, here comes the wedding band now!’ But OH-WHAT’S THIS?
Step three! SURPRISE! We ARE the band!” Capping the marker with a triumphant snap, Matt wheeled around to face Jay who had wrapped them up with a few joyous notes that sounded like the morning sunshine flooding their living room.

Summary
Obviously Matt’s aware that Jay looks good in a suit. It’s more something about the way he holds himself, still and straight, self possessed. That's not a Jay posture. It’s the weirdest thing, it makes Matt feel almost starstruck – so much so that when their eyes catch, it punches the breath out of him. There’s Jay, regular, but there’s someone else too, also Jay. That's when it catches up.
Maddy and her friend think Jay is his boyfriend. That word, boyfriend, crashes into his head so hard that for a split second he’s afraid he said it out loud. Earlier, Jules asked how long have you two been… and Matt, assuming he knew the end of the question, said since we were like 12 or something. Jay heard that happen. Not only that, he played along. They grinned at each other conspiratorially about it.
The only reason Matt would ever go to a family wedding is if he and Jay could get a show at The Rivoli out of it. The plan: Play the wedding, bring the house down, and get his cousin and her friends to book them for an after party. The part where they pretend to be a couple, threatening decades of load-bearing repression, comes out of nowhere – at least for Matt, it does.

That's not possible, is Matt's first thought but he clamps down on it because this is Jay, and Jay is wandering Spadina, and Jay is also here in his room. So. Something impossible is now possible and it may as well be time travel.
"You're a time traveller." Matt giggles. "Holy shit. Holy shit. How did you—? No, never mind that, what am I thinking. Do you have a sports almanac on you? Any winning lotto numbers?"
