“Everybody knew, Hans,” Henry said bitterly. “Everyone but me.” Hans’ eyes softened, but he said nothing. Henry continued. “I feel like such a fool. Toth stripped me and strung me up but that wasn’t nearly as humiliating as him telling me that I’ve been lied to my whole life.” It was painful when he’d trudged back to Rattay after. Henry’d always thought he’d been his father’s son, but now he didn’t even know his real father. He didn’t even know himself anymore.

It wasn’t like Ronan needed to do anything special for it. Younger Ronan would have probably gotten blackout drunk and woken up at two in the afternoon the next day somewhere near the edge of the Barns property. Younger Ronan would have also come back to an farmhouse full of nonsensical dreamt objects with no dreamer, his boyfriend 700 miles away, his best friend eight time zones ahead, and with nothing but the ghosts of his past to keep him company.
But all that had changed. A lot had changed, actually.
