    Summary

The Capitol built a myth. Inside it, we built a life.

For sixteen years, Panem watched Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen’s love story play out on television. They watched the arena. They watched the wedding. They watched the children grow up. It was a love story for the ages – proof that even the Capitol could be moved by something real, that tenderness could exist in the machinery.

What Panem did not see could fill a book. This is that book.

Real, Despite Everything is Peeta Mellark’s unflinching account of what it actually cost to become the nation’s most beloved family – and what, despite everything, became real anyway.

Not a memoir. An indictment - of an audience that never once asked what it was watching.
    - Parron Veld, The New Panem Review

This is the story the Capitol never wanted the world to know and could never have survived telling.”
    - Wren Thale, The Panem Ledger

Peeta Mellark is a baker and a painter and a husband and a father. He has lived in District Twelve his entire life, except for the years the Capitol did not let him.

“Don’t worry,” he breathed as he leaned in, intoxicated by the other god’s power, drunk on the unending madness and divine ecstasy. "You’ll grow to like it as much as I did.”

    Oh, karma was sweet indeed.

    Summary

Once upon a time, he might have gotten blasted to pieces for his disrespect. But Zeus seemed to be in an astonishingly happy mood, especially considering the circumstances, because he laughed. It startled Percy, how light the sound was, like a calm breeze carrying through a valley. He realized he had never heard Zeus laugh before.

OR, how Percy met Zeus in the busy life of a nursing student and somehow found the time.

    Summary

The downside of having all his friends together means that there’s an endless amount of teasing going around, particularly about him and the recent incidents they’re calling ‘The Sun God’s Hots For The Sea’s Son’, which is a ridiculously long nickname for what could actually be called ‘Apollo’s acting weird’.

    Summary

They were friends. They were friends. Even if Apollo did want more, and even if Percy wanted more, nothing had happened so it clearly didn’t need to. Apollo obviously knew as well as Percy that it just wasn’t a good idea. Why waste a perfectly good friendship for a new tragic love story?

    They were friends.

Or, how Percy befriends and falls in love with a god.

    Summary

The man was tall. That might be because Percy was sitting down and the man was standing over him, but he’d still be tall, because he was a man, and Percy was only five, and small for his age – that was what Jamie in his class said, but Percy thought he was stupid because he wasn’t that much taller than him, no one in his class was that much taller than him, Mrs Peters was taller than all of them and she was smaller than all the other teachers, so Percy had decided Jamie was stupid. But the man was tall, and he was looking down at Percy with an expression he didn’t like. It reminded him of Gabe. There was dislike there. There was an unspoken accusation. Gabe was always accusing him of things he didn’t do.

“My mom said I can’t talk to strangers,” Percy blurted out, so the man would go away.

    Summary

“He will be cursed,” Poseidon answered, his voice heavy with regret. She wasn’t used to seeing this side of him, so solemn and grave. He was usually full of laughter, quick to tease and lighten the mood. It made her feel even more unsettled. “Breakage of an oath on the Styx is no light matter. There will be consequences, Sally, and he will be the one to suffer them. It is my wrongdoing, but his existence is the broken oath. He …” A deep exhale, then silence.

He will be cursed. They had cursed a child that hadn’t even been born yet.

Or, Sally and Poseidon having a discussion about the consequences of their actions.

    Summary

Alec always was an observant child, never keen to be in the center of attention, content to let Isabelle and Jace overshadow him with their strong and bold personalities. But no, that isn’t quite true. Alexander has a strong personality too, simply not in the way his sister and parabatai do. In Alec’s quietness, Robert has always thought his eldest is much more like him than Maryse. Except braver, always braver, certain of who and what he is even in the midst of his fear. Robert looks at him now, and thinks of him as a young teenager, and wonders how he had made this man.

You’re a coward, Valentine's voice echoes, firm with no doubt to its authenticity, a fact that had proved itself true over and over again.

Robert Lightwood's perspective of his conversation with Alec at Jocelyn and Luke's wedding.
