Sighing, Junghwan turns his head toward the dark window. There are no stars visible from this angle; only the faint reflection of his own face in the glass stares back at him.
And somewhere beyond that is an eleven-kilometer-wide fragment of asteroid hurtling through space at a little under a hundred thousand kilometers per hour, ready to reduce all of humanity to nothingness.
So here he is.
It’s been seven years since Junghwan last set foot in an aerospace facility.
Seven years since he attended any cross-agency meetings since leaving the program.
Seven years since he last heard Kim Dohoon’s voice in person–

Summary
Summer is just a temporary reprieve. In a few short months, Youngjae and Dohoon will head off to their respective universities in California, and probably move on to find new best friends, and Jihoon (and Hanjin) will inevitably be left behind in the cold miserable Northeast to suffer through senior year. And as he watches Youngjae smile at him again, as Dohoon starts to cheer that “we’re finally fucking free!”, Jihoon can’t help but let out a quiet sigh.
Because a guy like Youngjae Choi could never, ever look at him and see anything more than just a younger friend. Right?

Is this the end?
Because it certainly doesn’t feel like one. This feels like they’ll wrap up their three days of concert peacefully, start preparations for a new album, and it’ll be those long hours spent in the practice room and vocal studios once more. And either Dohoon or Youngjae will inevitably ask the other, “Can I ask you something,” and it’ll be the summer of 2024 once more.
But then again, Dohoon had never been good at recognizing endings while they’re happening.
Only after, when he starts counting all the things that won’t happen again, not until the next beginning.
The last song.
The last late-night talk sitting on Dohoon’s bed.
The last time he stands beside Youngjae and doesn’t have to pretend things haven’t changed.
The last time Youngjae told him, “I love you.”

“I’m in,” Dohoon says instantly. Mingyu seems a little taken aback, as if he hadn’t expected Dohoon to agree so quickly. “I’ll do it. I– yeah. I’ll do it.”
“Okay,” replies Mingyu, nodding. He pushes the CLASSIFIED folder across the table, towards Dohoon. “All the information we have for you will be in that case file.”
Dohoon picks it up, opens the folder.
A face he knows all too well stares back at him.
