Lan Wangji’s eyes snap open. Right there, very faint, he can smell a hint of sweet liquor. He inhales again, and there it is. The distant spiciness in the air, mixed with the smell of earth. The scent of a very particular sort of sweat.
A scent he knows too well.
“Where is he?” Wei Ying’s voice pierces through the air. "Where's Lan Zhan?"

Summary
Lan Zhan and Wei Ying have a bet to see who gets more arrests in the precinct. If Lan Zhan loses, he has to go on a date with him, and do all horrible stuff Wei Ying thinks he hates doing.
He's not gonna lose, though. He's two arrests ahead, and Wei Ying only has 10 minutes to go. This win is his.
And then Wei Ying comes out of the captain's office, looking smug, and Lan Zhan's heart drops.

Summary
Staring down at their hands, Lan Zhan shakes his head. It's a slow, loose shake, so different from his tight movements of just moments ago. Almost like he's drunk. An uncomfortable thought arises at this apparent level of relief.
"How...how long have you been in pain?" Wei Wuxian asks.
Lan Wangji is so preoccupied on one of his precious, rare nighthunts with Wei Wuxian that he does not feel it when a tiny, quiet curse latches onto him.

Summary
Wei Ying makes a small, anguished sound. It is not a refusal. Slowly, so that such a refusal may still be voiced, Lan Wangji brings up his hand and places it flat on Wei Ying’s stomach. A quiet gasp is muffled hastily, and hands curl into fists.
“Yes,” Wei Ying grits out. “Please.”
After a nighthunt, Wei Wuxian takes a curse meant for an inadequate husband. Lan Wangji happens to be in the wrong (right) place at the wrong (right) time.

He almost tells Wei Wuxian he loves him, right there on the couch on their canceled first date, just barely managing to stop himself before the words leave his mouth.
Lan Wangji keeps his public self separate from who he is when he is alone. Wei Wuxian unwittingly smashes through that boundary. Surprisingly, Lan Wangji does not regret it.
