There’s something exhilarating about this particular night air. There’s a touch of sweat and salt in it, and nostalgia, that in spades. The sensation of being at home after all these years, even if Long Island hasn’t been home in so long there’s still a sense of it, of the entire scene they grew up in having gathered around them tonight, and it’s like a beat in John’s blood even in the silence, the low thrum of the love that surrounds them.

Summary
Maester Aemon still has his sight when Jon Snow arrives at Castle Black to swear his vows. Targaryen’s might have typically had pale hair and purple eyes, but Maester Aemon would recognise his family anywhere.
His vows have been tested three times before. This is his fourth and final test and, after nearly eighty years of being a bystander at the Wall whilst his family destroyed themselves, Aemon decides that enough is enough.
