He sees things, sometimes. Has always seen, never understood, but never quite rejected images of which he knew so little about. At times, he has found himself clinging to them, images of people he never quite knew, but they have always felt much too real, enough to keep him company, enough to make him human. They don’t know his name, nor what he looks like, let alone acknowledge his existence. He’s a spectator, nothing more. He attaches onto people who might as well be dead.
Seer, he’s told. Not human, but a druid, and a seer.

Eli had never realized he was human. The possibility had always slipped past him. After all, he lived like a bird in a cage, a cherished play thing. A well used tool. Only useful, never really alive. You could crack him open like a fortune cookie and see what he said on the inside- but, at least for now, he was far too precious to be broken.
So, instead, he was kept in. He had an entire wing of the castle to himself, a courtyard filled with beautiful flowers from countries he'd never hope to visit, fine silks that shimmered like the surface of a sunlit pool, the adoration of an entire court and its queen- but, if you had been born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you wouldn't realize that it was any different from pewter.
Silk and cotton, flowers and weeds, glass and diamonds were all the same to him. His life had always been enough for him. Perhaps, one day, he'd be able to lie down in that garden of his and die contented, lacking nothing.
Only because he’s never realized that he’s wanted something more.

at least it wasn’t entirely miserable outside. maybe the night belonged to demons and horrors, but they were a risk he was willing to take if it meant some peace. the darkness was almost a relief for his eyes, and andrew preferred the chill and the smell of earth to the stuffiness of the manor; it was as familiar to him as the dirt underfoot in that old cemetery. so he allowed himself to take it all in as he paced about, one hand against the stony walls, watching his breath fog up in front of him.
but that was all he had to guide him. he didn’t hear the stranger’s muffled breathing, or catch their huddled form against the estate’s walls, observing something between the cracks. so that’s how he ended up tumbling over a mass of cloth and mesh, face-first into the untended grass.
