Summary
Set aboard the Morning Star in Book 3.
After Sevro's speech narrowly saves the Morning Star's Gold prisoners from their demise at the hands of the mob, Darrow is confronted by a council of lowColors who still seek revenge. They propose a punishment to keep the peace: that a representative of the Golds, namely Cassius au Bellona, must fulfill the duties of a lowColor for a week.
To Darrow's chagrin, these duties include serving as the Reaper's personal Pink.
While Darrow very seriously agonizes over the ethics of this arrangement, Cassius vigorously carries out his sentence, educating Darrow in the realm of pleasure and stirring up unfamiliar feelings along the way.

Summary
After hearing about Karnus’ plan to beat up and potentially kill Darrow at the baths, Cassius goes against his better judgement to save his old freind (now enemy) from his enraged family. He tells himself that Julian would have believed the act to be an unjust punishment, leaving him no choice but to come to the rescue.
But is that the only reason he goes?
Is it really only for Julian’s sake that he carries Darrow to his reserved rooms, laying the bruised boy upon his bed with perhaps too much care?
And — to add insult to injury, Cassius soon finds himself locked in the room with this man that he should’ve executed, yet helped instead.
Before he knows it, things are out of control.

Summary
“He had unnaturally soft hair, accompanied by warring eyes of all different golden hues. Set, dark brows. Height that almost matched mine. He was extraordinarily built, with a strong jawline capable of withstanding the worst of beatings. And his mouth. His mouth that spoke such profound words, that could stirr even a Pink to battle at his side — the most perfect mouth I’d ever seen.
I would’ve let him win.
The thought is startling. Me. A Bellona, would have voluntarily allowed another to win,”

Summary
The way his breath sounds when he sleeps. The heat of him when he presses his forehead to mine. The dangerous, aching ease of it.
Think of Dancer. Think of Eo. Think of anything that is not the shape of Cassius’s mouth, nor the memory of his hands picking leaves from my hair.
Or: A chance encounter leads to unexpected consequences.
