Nina suddenly grinned deviously and leaned in close to Inej. “I've kissed Kaz, you know.”
Kaz choked on his whiskey and sputtered. “What?!”
“Oh yes, don't you remember?” She asked, batting her eyelashes.
“No,” he coughed. “I think I would recall that.”
“Well, you weren't breathing,” Nina explained. She tossed her hair over her shoulder triumphantly. “Of course, I can't blame you-”
“Zenik!” Kaz growled.
“It was after we escaped the Ice Court,” Nina grinned, finally giving in. “We dragged you out of the river and you weren't breathing. My kiss saved your life.” Kaz looked scandalized.
“That's less of a kiss,” Inej laughed, “and more of necessary mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
LMAOOOO“So, Nina's kissed you,” Inej remarked, her eyebrows raised and her head cocked as if daring him to contradict her or come up with an excuse.
“If you can call it that. It wasn't actually a kiss, you know,” Kaz said with another roll of his eyes. Then he caught on to Inej's air of supposed indifference. He set his glass down, amused. “Oh. Are you jealous?”
Her mouth quirked. “A little.”
Kaz blinked. “Why?”
“Because I haven't had the opportunity yet.”
“Would you like to push me into the canal later?” He suggested half-heartedly. “I could try to drown again.”
“Maybe. I appreciate the offer.”
KAZ SHE MIGHT JUST DO IT“This is the second time you've almost drowned,” Nina observed. She turned quickly to Inej and assured her in a hushed voice, “I didn't kiss him this time, though.”
“Third time,” Kaz amended darkly.
“You drowned another time? Without me? Rude.”

Kaz awkwardly offered a handshake through his drenched gloves. It was all he was capable of giving at the moment and Nina knew better than to ask for anything else. They seemed to have reached a silent understanding. Being possessed by one's dead brother had a way of bringing people closer together. -
