Summary
The only reason Dess knew anything new about Asriel was because of a three year old article that she'd scrounged up for her own curiosity. She stared at it, her heart dropping further and further.
The eighteen year old in the photo felt like a stranger.
The twenty-one year old whose text she’d left on delivered for three days felt like a stranger.
For some reason, ever since returning from the Depths, Dess and Asriel simply hadn't been the same.

A sense of doom hangs over December Holiday. Summer is ending. Asriel is out of her league. Life is slipping away from her. But when a meteor crashes on the edge of Hometown, an older, traumatized version of her sister Noelle emerges from the smoking crater clad in bloodstained white. Destiny begins to shift. Perhaps things will be better in this world. (Probably not.)
