Summary
What do you do when you can't do anything?
When a sabotaged lesson plan infects Caleb, his colleagues, and their students with a rare and deadly disease, there is little to do but wait for a team of researchers to try and find a cure. But then, each moment seems an insurmountable task--avoid panic, take care of one another, manage their worsening symptoms, figure out who or what may have caused it, and stay alive long enough for medicine to be created.
There is something all too familiar about being locked in a Soltryce tower, trusting people who can't be trusted, and hoping death won't find you before morning.

"After a few moments of Beau staring down at him, Caleb seemed to realize that she was still there. He blinked up at her, gaze coming more into focus.
“Ja, I’m fine. Let’s go,” he said, pushing his chair back from his desk. As if he hadn’t just zoned out for a full minute before responding. He stood up and left the classroom, not even waiting for Beau to follow him. So that was how it was gunna be today. Beau felt a prick of annoyance form at the base of her skull. Fucking perfect."In which Caleb is having a bad time, Beau and Nott confront Caleb about his past (it's mostly Beau let's be fair), and Molly is in the dark and kinda lonely (but trying his very best).
The second work in a shamelessly self indulgent, stupidly elaborate High School AU. Basically, the Mighty Nein are shoved into an after school program together. Slow burn bonding, angst, and probably cuddling to follow.

"There’s an after-school program that I think would do you some good. Like a club, sort of. You could meet some people like Nott.” Mr. Sol’s smile was wide and seemed genuine. “You seemed to get along well with him.”
“Oh.” Caleb wanted to protest, but he couldn’t. He didn’t need to meet people. He’d had people before, and it had done very little good. He was fine alone.
“I’ll give your parents a call and let them know, okay?”
“Ja. Okay.”
Mr. Sol called the people Caleb was staying with and told them about Zadash High’s “Behavioral Correction Program”. And Caleb left.It had only been a month since he’d left rehab and come to this school, and he was already being recommended for a troubled kid's group. So, overall, he was off to a shining start."
In which Caleb has a lot of trauma to work through, the Mighty Nein is A Lot To Handle (tm), and Caleb's parents are lowkey my favorite characters.
