WHY'S THE SCREEN BLURRY?? Holy shit, this fanfic broke me. I've literally been sobbing for the last 15 minutes because of this. This was such a wonderful fanfic, and also, "I'm coming home, Chuuya"???? STOP IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW. THANK YOU FOR THIS (Edit 6/27/26: Also, mystery of love and futile devices by Sufjan Stevens is perfect for the last chapter. I sobbed again at 4AM bawling my eyes out to a skk fanfic. That's the best thing I've experienced all summer.)

Summary
Dazai was not his soulmate — Chuuya knows that now.
He’s gotten used to the feeling, even when he was grating against it and Dazai had made sure that there was no-one else left for him to care about, but being in a pit of his own making has done little to alleviate its existence. Of the lack that comes with being made wrong, digging in his nails and taking bullets he doesn’t ever need to take just so he’d seem less a blanked-out, lab grown freak each time he sees his skin in the shower or the bathroom mirror.
He’s given up wondering what Dazai’s soulmate must think of all the bullet wounds and scars, what kind of deranged, unlucky son of a bitch the universe deigned to saddle the mackerel to for life.
They would’ve died with him anyway. Selfish bastard.
Or: Soulmate AU set two years after Dazai's defection, where Chuuya believes that he died with Oda.
