Summary
“But he’s Buck,” Theo explains, pushing a small finger into Buck’s chest, as if to show Tommy exactly who Buck was. “Everyone calls him Buck.”
Tommy’s face relaxes slightly as he answers, “yes, that’s true, but—”
“Everyone!” Theo cuts Tommy off, holding up his hand as he begins to count on his fingers. “Me, Chris, Auntie Hen and Karen, Uncle Chimney, Ravi—”
Once he runs out of fingers on his one hand, he looks up at Buck, realization dawning on his face. “Aunt Maddie calls you Evan!” He exclaims, almost shouts in Buck’s face, eyes comically wide at this, apparently very important, piece of information.
Buck nods. “Yes, she does. Sometimes.”
“Aunt Maddie does, sometimes.” Theo reiterates to Tommy, his eyes narrowing as he cocks his head to the side, thinking. “Wait— Eddie does too! But only sometimes. Like less sometimes than Aunt Maddie. I think? But Eddie is Eddie, so it’s different.”
Tommy can’t help the snort he lets out, “you’re right about that, kid.”
Or, Buck runs into his ex at the grocery store, which forces Buck to confront feelings he's been ignoring for far too long.

Summary
“And, um, how long have you been in love with me?”
“Honestly? Probably for years.”
Years, he watches Buck mouth the word. His eyes slip past Eddie, his expression turning slightly dazed as he tries to process this new information.
“But I only realized it now.”
Buck’s eyes flick back to him, eyebrows shooting up in surprise. “Now?”
“Yeah, like, right now.” He looks down at the watch on his wrist, cocking his head back and forth. “About five minutes ago, give or take.”
“You realized you’re in love with me while watching me wipe chocolate off Theo’s face?” Buck huffs out a laugh, looking down at the now dirty wet wipe still clutched in his hands in disbelief.
Or, Eddie realizes he's in love with Buck on a Wednesday afternoon. This is how that goes.

Summary
Buck finally sees him, his pupils blown wide, his lips red from sucking on Buck’s neck. “Fuck, I don’t know what I need. I feel insane right now. I just need to see, you know? I need proof of the blood pumping underneath your skin.”
“And you decided a hickey was the only way to do that?” Buck laughs, a tad hysterical. Eddie responds by pressing his finger against the hickey beginning to form on his neck. Buck hisses at the touch and, in the dim light, Eddie’s eyes seem to get even darker. Hungrier.
Buck is so fucked.
Or, Eddie becomes obsessed with checking Buck's pulse after New Mexico. It quickly escalates, when checking with his hands isn't enough anymore.

Summary
“Wait, didn’t we already celebrate?” He asks, thinking back to the beginning of their shift. “I made that cake—”
“Right, of course, for Max—”
“For Sam.” Buck retorts, eyes narrowed slightly. Laughter bubbles up on the tip of his tongue.
“Right.” Eddie nods, biting the inside of his cheek, fighting his own laughter, trying to keep his face serious. He fails, a chuckle escaping him, a dimple appearing on the side of his face.
Or, a post 9x16 coda.

Summary
“It’s usually a way for a man to stake his claim, romantically; to let everyone know that the person is spoken for.” One of them had explained.
“You know the saying: wear the hat, ride the cowboy.” Another had joked, although much drunker than the first.
And yeah, Buck isn’t from the south. He doesn’t know much about cowboys and their hats. Or their rules about their hats. But Eddie is. Which means Eddie very well might know about the hat rule, which means—
Or, a speculation fic based off the cowboy hat stills from the Nashville Crossover.
