Summary
Alex has always made it a point to mind his own business. He wakes up, works out, heads to the beach, or helps out around the house, then goes to bed. Rinse and repeat, adding the occasional two-hour phone call from Haley updating him on her summer in Zuzu City. If anyone asks, he won’t be here for much longer, onto bigger and better things, like earning a spot on a professional gridball team.
Sebastian isn’t one to open up to people. He has Sam and Abigail, and that’s more than enough for him, seeing as he won’t be in Pelican Town by this time next year. Or, that’s what he tells himself each time someone interrupts his work or makes band practice run later than it needs to. He’s alone, happy, and has no plans to change that.
Until the night Alex catches sight of a light coming from inside the abandoned Community Center, and Sebastian is just crossed enough to let his mind run away with itself.

It was never a secret that Sebastian intended to leave Pelican Town. That he wanted to be a city boy, not a small town boy. The Farmer, Alik Moss, had started to change his mind about that though.
For a time, anyways...
And then he broke up with Sebastian when it seemed like they'd be announcing their engagement any day. Broke up with him, broke his heart, and Sebastian went to Zuzu after all.
Now, years later, with a lot of personal growth (and a great deal of VERY unhealthy coping mechanisms) under his belt Sebastian finds himself drawn back to Pelican Town. Back to the quiet as a respite from the city that he loves but feels lonesome in.
But nothing is the way he remembered... He's in for a lot of surprises. A lot of shocks. And the resurgence of something that he thought he had let go of many, many years ago when he sees Alex on the arm of Alik Moss. Alex... Hiding misery behind a not quite real smile.

There will be no safety net if one of them falls... when one of them falls.
