Hunting is a job like any other. Megumi receives assignments, completes them, reports back to his benefactor, then wastes away inside the Gojo estate until it’s time for the cycle to go around again. Megumi expects nothing more from life than exactly what it gives him, to ask for anything more was just setting himself up for disappointment.
When what was supposed to be an easy hunt gets complicated Megumi is faced with the realization there are things that he wants, or rather, someone.

Megumi grows up in a small, rural town and meets a peculiar spirit named Sukuna, who decides to never leave him alone - for better or for worse. As he gets older, he finds himself in a strange existence that hangs between the bright world of the living, occupied by his friends Yuji and Nobara, and the dark, ominous world of the malevolent Sukuna.
(Or: a loosely Sukufushi Nosferatu AU but in 2000s-2010s Japan.)

beautiful in a very bleak way
When Toji quietly asks for a spoonful of soup, and Megumi gently lifts it up to his lips, a peculiar sense of pride sparks in Megumi’s chest. Perhaps Toji couldn’t be a good father, but Megumi could be a good son – at least for their last few moments together. Megumi wants to leave Toji like this, with the memory of his son taking care of him in a way that his own father likely never did.
